What to you think guys. I know we got burned with this project last
time but that was not Jason's fault. IF the servers were going to be
UNIX based and we would not have to reboot them or fuck with hardware
I think that collocation would be fine. But the fact is we just do
not have the facilities for this sort of thing at the moment. I hate
turning people away but I think that unless we can get a place with
UPS backups, stability, and the room this is not going to work. let
me know what you think and I will get back to Jason.

Hey Chris, it's been a long time since I've kept in touch with you... ever since funding on the localpunk project went to shit. Anyhow, I'm just writing you to keep in touch... and seeing how the dod.net collective is going. I'm sure we'll be working together in the future... as funds permit. I'm in the process of considering getting our site off shared NT servers and getting it on a deticated UNIX server running coldfusion 5 although I was researching into hosting it here, but bandwidth costs are shit. 590 bucks a month for a T-1 seems a little out of my budget of no money.
Alright, so heres the idea I'm looking into the next few months, (after the launch of the site and our poor little shared server dies): sending down two servers to feed off your T-1... one running the database backend, and one for the script parsing. I have two computers laying around the house right now I purchased off ebay running Windows 2000 Advanced Server and one running coldfusion 5. Although I'm more familer with the windows operating system, I've been giving though to moving over to Linux. Anyhow, if the collective is even willing, how much do you think you'd charge to host the servers down there. I'd also like to get all the othersites I've been hosting off my current server and put them on the deticated and start a little hosting solution for independent bands running off our backend to tie in with there member area. The idea of having a band sign up to the main site and having the option of hosting there site on the server and using the scripts for there sites content management via there member
area on localpunk. (e.g they post a show on the main site for thier band and it's also listed on their website.)
I don't really know how complex this would be to acomplish, I guess that's why I'm asking you. I'm not sure if you have the ports on your switch or enough bandwith coming in to handel it. I'll be looking forward to hearing a responce and your ideas.
